January 27 - February 1, 2009 FIFO TAHITI 6th edition International Oceanian Documentary Film Festival of Tahiti.
February 7, 2009 Moorea Marathon. 21st International Marathon held on the island of Moorea, with over 600 participants.
February - Date to be confirmed Raiatea International Billfish Tournament. 7th International deep-sea fishing competition in Raiatea. The rules for this tournament are based on IGFA rules, which help protect deep-sea marine life. The winners of this competition will be rewarded with trophies and cash prizes.
March 5, 2009 Missionaries Day. A commemorative celebration of the 212th anniversary arrival in Tahiti of the first English Protestant missionaries on March 5, 1797
March 30 - April 4, 2009 Tahiti "Ori Tahiti Master Course" Tahitian Dance Academy. The 1st Tahitian Dance Academy "Ori Tahiti Master Course" is organized by the "Conservatoire artistique de la Polynésie-Française", controlled by the Ministry of Culture of French Polynesia
April - Date to be confirmed Tifaifai Exhibition. Traditional Tahitian Quilt Exhibition at the City Hall in Papeete.
April 4, 2009 Marathon Tahiti "Tamure". A special entertainment day during which the public is invited to participate in a continuous marathon dancing of the Tahiti "Tamure" or "Ori Tahiti", at Place To'ata in Papeete.
April 18, 2009 Moorea - 3rd International Triathlon Tahiti Nui. Sporting event of 2 races to choose from: - Sprint distance: 750m swimming, 20km cycling and 5km running. - Olympic distance: 1.5km swimming, 40km cycling and 10km running. Races to begin at Mareto beach nex to Opunohu Bay.
May 1 to May 6, 2009 Air Tahiti Nui Von Zipper Surfing Trials Qualifying surf competition in Teahupoo prior to the famous Billabong Pro Surfing.
May 6 to May 10, 2009 Tahiti Pearl Regatta, 5th edition. International regatta in the Leeward Islands - Raiatea, Huahine and Taha'a. This is a 3-stage, 3-day race. At the finish of each stage, the winners received their trophy for the various categories and at the end of each day all participants enjoy a dinner with traditional Tahitian entertainment. May 9 to May 21, 2009 Billabong Tahiti Pro Surfing Tournament. International competition amongst the world's best surfers at Teahupoo.
June 19 to June 21, 2009 4th Tahiti-Moorea Sailing Rendez-vous. Interactive event between tourists, sailors and locals. A day of sailing starting from Papeete Harbor's Yacht Dock to Moorea, then followed by a variety of local competitions such as outrigger canoe races, javelin-throwing and fruit-carriers' races.
June 24 to July 25, 2009 Heiva I Tahiti. The largest annual cultural festival in Tahiti taking place at beautiful To'ata Square in Papeete. In addition to the dance and singing competitions, there are sporting events, cultural demonstrations, cuisine and artisans
July 10 to July 14, 2009 Heiva Tuaro. Traditional sports' competition including javelin throwing, stone lifting, coconut tree climbing and canoe racing in Papeete.
July - Date to be confirmed Heiva Rima'i Artisans Festival. A big handicraft Exhibition by all the local artists in French Polynesia
August - Date to be confirmed Tahiti - Te Vai Ari'i Marathon: The Super Aito Va'a. Three-day individual outrigger canoe race featuring the top hundred rowers qualified from the "Te Aito Va'a" race, over distances of 5, 10, 15, 20 km.
Sep. 26 to October 4, 2009 7th Taapuna Pro/AM Surfing. A surf competition in Taapuna coral reef pass (west coast of Papeete). Amateur and professional surfers and body-boarders participate.
September 18 to September 21, 2009 Tahiti International Golf Open International event at the 18-hole Olivier Breaud golf course located at Atimaono in Mataiea, Tahiti.
Sept 19, 2009 Raid Painapo 8th Edition. A mountain race of teams of 3 persons each in Moorea . This event is dedicated to environmental preservation.
September 10 to September 27, 2009 15th Taapuna Master Surfing. Surf competition for amateurs in Punaauia (west coast of Papeete).
September 27, 2009 World Tourism Day. Each year, GIE Tahiti Tourisme traditionally organises this project with a theme proposed by OMT (Organisation Mondiale du Tourisme).
October - All Islands - Date to be confirmed 8th Hawaiki Nui Va'a. In the Leeward Islands. Va'a (canoe racing) is one of the traditional sport of Tahiti. Over 100 canoes will race between the islands of Huahine, Raiatea, Taha'a and Bora Bora. The finishing line will be at the Matira Point in Bora Bora.
November 21, 2009 2nd Trail Rotui. A 15 km marathon around the Rotui's Mountain on Moorea. Available to all athletes (beginners to professionals).
November - Date to be confirmed Tattoonesia. An event in Tahiti where Polynesian and foreign tattoo artists comes together and share with each other and visitors their designs, techniques and materials used in this ancestral art form
December - Date to be confirmed Tiare Festival. Annual contest of floral decoration with the Tahiti national flower "Tiare", at businesses and public places in Papeete.
December 26 to December 28, 2009 Marquesas Islands Art Objects Mini-Festival in Fatu Hiva.
