InterContinental Resort & Spa Moorea

The extraordinary 17-acre garden site blessed by nature with its lagoonside location of soaring green peaks describes the magnificent resort. Close to Opunohu Bay on the northeast coast of the island, sheltered from the prevailing winds, the InterContinental Resort and Spa Moorea is located voluptuously between the mountains and lagoon.

Situated in the heart of a verdant setting of 11 hectares (27 acres), these magnificent gardens contain 165 different species of trees, plants and flowers.

Confided to the talented hands of French architect Pierre-Jean Picart, who loves Polynesia, the hotel underwent a big renovation project that was finished in September 2002, with very pleasing results.

Accomodation

The 17 Garden Suite Bungalows, the 50 Overwater and 28 Beach Suite Bungalows (also called "fare"), as well as the 48 Garden View Rooms, were all decorated with a concern of combining a respect for the local traditions with non-conspicuous contemporary luxury. Noble woods and natural materials were elegantly used in the decor. These include parquet or bamboo, Méranti of Indonesia partitions, mahogany and wicker furniture and natural colored wall coverings. The furniture of distinguished and original lines, as well as objects made from Tahitian arts and crafts, (paintings, tapas...) compose a refined and harmonious ensemble and reinforce the Polynesian identity of this dream hotel. The only impediment to tradition (for the comfort of our guests), are the "fare" and rooms are all provided with a very modern air-conditioning system.

Besides the classic island excursions and a wide choice of nautical and sports activities, the hotel also offers more original activities such as the “Moorea Dolphin Center”, an incredible aquatic park where guests can swim and play with the dolphins. There is also "Hélène’Spa", a centre of well being that was the first Tahitian spa in Polynesia, and suggests a range of care treatments in small gorgeous “Fare” that are generously open to the surrounding nature. Everything here was conceived to transform your vacation into an album of unforgettable souvenirs for lovers and families.

Activities

The Activities Desk located in the hotel's lobby will be pleased to provide you information and make your bookings for all the many land and water activities available on the sister island of Moorea. The Moorea Dolphin Center is also one of the resort’s attractions. It is a huge natural home for four bottlenose dolphins brought from a similar facility in Hawaii or "retired" from the US Navy in San Diego. They are lovingly cared for by a scientific and veterinary team and are the stars of a fascinating interactive and educational program. You can learn all about these frolicsome creatures, watch them, feed them, swim and play with them in the comfort of small groups.

Also as a specialty, the InterContinental Moorea Resort and Spa lets you discover the cultural treasures of French Polynesia. We organize various demonstrations focused on the local handicraft such as pareu dyeing demonstration, tifaifai quilt making demonstration, flower and shell lei making demonstration and basket weaving demonstration.
