Les Roulottes
At sunset, on the Papeete waterfront, "Les Roulottes" roll in and
begin to set up for their evening diners. Roulottes are restaurants
on wheels! Each one has its own cuisine and distinctive charm. Les
Roulottes, surrounded by locals and visitors alike, are casual and
economical places to dine. As the chefs of these little trailers
rapidly set up in the town square, one can witness cooking techniques
from barbecuing the fresh catch to preparing a delicate crèpe.
The only challenge of this outdoor eatery is making your selection!
The International choices range from Italian to Chinese. Don't forget
to try the local favorite called "Poisson Cru." The translation,
"raw fish," doesn't do justice to this wonderful coconut, cucumber,
citrus and fresh tuna salad! After a warm day of exploring Tahiti,
your senses will be revived from the new aromas and flavors of Les
Roulottes and the sounds of the local music in Vaiete Square.
