| Le Meridien Tahiti History |
Opened
in July 1998, Le Meridien Tahiti is located along the beach of Tahiti's
picturesque Punaauia region, considered by aficionados one of the
most beautiful sites in Tahiti. It offers one of the most exquisite
views of Moorea in an environment surrounded by majestic mountains.
Le Meridien is within close proximity of Faa'a International Airport
(6.5 miles), the capitol city of Papeete (9.3 miles) and the Atimaono
International Golf Course (6.5 miles). It is five minutes from The
Museum of Tahiti and Her Islands and 10 min. from the botanical
gardens and the Gauguin Museum.
| Le Meridien Tahiti Location |
The
islands of Polynesia are a gorgeous collection of volcanic islands
and atolls strewn lazily across the grand Pacific Ocean. The island
of Tahiti proper, often called the "Island of Love," is the largest
of the 118 islands and atolls that comprise French Polynesia.
The 402 sq. miles of Tahiti's surface area consist of mountain
peaks reaching over 7,300ft. into
a lei of wispy clouds. Around Tahiti-Nui (big Tahiti), a 71-mile
long road winds between the mountains and the sea. On the peninsula
known as Tahiti-Iti (Little Tahiti), the road continues down each
coast for 12 miles.
Papeete, the modern and bustling capital of Tahiti and her Islands,
contains government offices, gendarmerie, hospitals, clinics,
banks and many other services dedicated to serving the population
of the islands as well as tourists who come for a life-enriching
experience to these magical islands.
We might as well say it right off: the island of Tahiti is known
more for its cosmopolitan atmosphere and rugged mountains than
for the white sand beaches that people envision when they hear
the word "Tahiti." Tahiti
offers a multitude of touristic pleasures to the informed visitor,
but it guards its secrets. It does not easily expose its qualities.
Yet, it does offer them to people who are willing to accept the
special charms of the island. Mountain hikes, refreshing waterfalls
and diversity of scenery are some of the enjoyable surprises.
A very important part of the discovery is the warm contact with
the inhabitants who have been able to preserve their authenticity,
while welcoming with ease, the advantages and disadvantages of
an occidental civilization, which it has come in contact for the
last fifty years. |
